Brothers-in-law James McNeill Whistler and Sir Francis Seymour Haden were masters of the 19th century printmaking revival. Whistler, an American who lived extensively in England, influenced printmaking in America and England perhaps more than any other artist. His brother-in-law, Sir Francis Seymour Haden learned much about the craft from Whistler and became an even more accomplished, though not as well known, printmaker. Haden was founder of the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers.
