Tornado Alley Roller Girls Elbow Their Way Into a Successful Second Season
Oklahoma City, OK, January 28, 2008 – Not even a month into the New Year and the girls are already mixing it up with skates, skirts, and scowls aplenty. Tornado Alley Roller Girls (TARG) held their first competition of 2008 on New Year's Eve at the Opening Night celebration in Bricktown, followed by an expo bout in Stillwater on January 27.
The second season is already proving to be a knock down drag out fight to the finish, and it's only just begun.
The home opener, "Saint Valentine's Day Massacre," will take place on Sunday, February 17th, 7pm-9pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Cell Block 9 (CB9) will take on the Valkyrie Vixens.
TARG will be holding bouts and practices in their new home at the OKC Farmer's Market, 311 S. Klein Ave in Oklahoma City. "The Farmer's Market is where Oklahoma Derby originated in the late 30's. We are so impressed with our new home and feel a huge sense of pride to be able to represent Women's Flat Track Derby in a place with so much Roller Derby history," Grimm Hilda, coach of the Valkyrie Vixens says when discussing the new venue.
Grimm Hilda lead the Valkyrie Vixens to a win at Stillwater's "Mutiny on the Waters" bout on January 27. The final score was Valkyrie Vixens
105 and CB9 84.
CB9 dominated the 2007 season, while the Valkyries struggled to keep their attitudes positive, despite several losses throughout the year.
The Valkyries have practiced hard and intend on giving CB9 something to fear this season.
Will the Valkyries become overconfident with their first win? Will CB9 be looking for revenge? Either way, the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre on February 17th will be a bout not to miss. The fast-paced, physical nature of the sport is what keeps the fans coming back for more.
