Blues Rock Guitarist Joe Bonamassa, who kicked of the year being named “Best Blues Guitarist” and “Artist of The Year” in readers’ choice polls from Guitar Player Magazine, and Blues Wax e-zine respectively. Will headline an upcoming performance at Rose State Performing Arts Theatre on Thursday September 25th 7:30pm. Opening the show is Rose State student, guitarist Aaron Squirrel from Norman Oklahoma. Bonamassa’s newest release comes out this month Live From Nowhere in Particular. It will hit stores August 19th. The album recorded during his fall 2007 tour featuring his band of stellar musicians performing songs from his previous 6 studio releases. The most recent studio release, Sloe Gin which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues chart was also nominated for Album of the year by the U.K.s” prestigious Classic Rock magazines’, Roll of Honour Awards. That album as well as the new live album was Produced by Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Journey.)
Another 2008 benchmark for Bonamassa is Gibson Guitar’s release of the Joe Bonamassa inspired by model through the Gibson Custom Shop. It is an aged Les Paul Goldtop. “Right now there is no better blues rock artist than Bonamassa”, wrote Gibson then goes on to state that in the decades since Bonamassa began playing guitar at age four he has “gone on to single handedly transform blues rock with his own unique fusion of both old and new ideas and distinct interpretations of blues.” They added the exquisite new instrument is “a tribute to the extraordinary guitar virtuoso.”
You can hear Joe Bonamassa weekdays, 11am to 11:15am as he hosts “Daily Cup of Joe” on Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 74 where he plays legendary blues performances past and present and gives his own personal take and insights on what has inspired him to play the blues.
Bonamassa has returned to the Oklahoma City area frequently since his first appearance here in 2003 when he brought his Blues in the Schools program to local area schools. He has been partnered with the Blues Foundation, a non profit organization based in Memphis that preserves the history of and educates people to the blues. He also served on the board of directors as its youngest elected member.
